Complicated name aside, an isometric grid is your ticket to creating amazing 3D illustrations and designs.

Course content

Vectornator features a best-in-class isometric grid that can be generated in mere seconds through the Menu Bar. It allows you to change the distance between grids, as well as the angle.

An isometric illustration or design is achieved by a style of drawing which uses a technique called isometric projections. Through this technique, you can represent any 3D object on a 2D surface, like your Mac screen.

But representing objects in 3D has more facets to it. There is another style of drawing that accomplishes a 3D aesthetic on a flat, 2D surface. True perspective drawing. With this technique, all the angles in your work will direct to vanishing points on the horizon and “meet” at the end of the perspective view.

Comparing true and isometric is a great way to understand what an isometric projection is. The angles of an isometric grid (and thus illustration or design) are infinitely parallel and never meet. Now that you’ve seen both techniques side it’s much easier to understand the concept of isometric, isn’t it?

If you want to tap into the powers of our Isometric Grid, then watch this video to learn all about it.
